Ang Lee brings Yann Martel’s international best-seller to the big screen in ‘Life of Pi’, the magical tale of a young Indian boy adrift on a boat in the Pacific Ocean with a Bengal tiger.

The incredible story follows the unlikely travelling companions, along with various other animal survivors of the ship wreck, through 227 days in a lifeboat.

Using flashbacks and fantasy sequences, ‘Life of Pi’ explains what led to their epic voyage and details the strange events that transpire.

Survival and revival

The films is an odyssey in more ways that one. The journey that Pi undertakes through life is split into two parts. The first part is woven with lots of visuals and dialogues and the events which lead to his ill fated trip. This is a direct co-relation to the second half of the movie which features Pi and a bengal tiger adrift on the lifeboat and their survival is dependent on each other. This part of the movie has a fantasy aspect and the tiger is also a part of that in that it obviously couldn't be real. However the tiger and PI exist in a lifeboat no bigger than a caravan with a lifeboat as an annexe for Pi. The film depicts both boy and animal in juxtaposition with both each other and the sea on which they are adrift. Everything is big, bold and brash and the film really lends itself to the cinema. I wish I could have seen it in 3d which would have been an even better experience. Well worth renting on dvd.

Nothing special :/ not a bad movie but rather something that you would enjoy at home while laying down…

For once, since Avatar, the 3D version enhances the film! You don't get the nasty popup-book style 3D most ripoff companies try to sell you, you get really good depth of field.
